Iowa Hawkeyes

February 16 - 17

My sister gave Brian the most awesome gift for Christmas!  Two tickets to an Iowa Hawkeyes basketball game at Penn State!  She even confirmed that my parents could watch the kids while we were away.  So around 1pm on Thursday we gave the kids a kiss and thanked my dad for taking a half day to watch the kids and headed for Route 80 West.  We hit some rain, sleet and snow for the trip out but we still made it in 3 hours and 45 minutes.  We checked into the hotel and headed right for the pool which was so nice!  The hotel had a great restaurant and we enjoyed a delicious meal and then set out to find the Bryce Jordan Arena.

I was little nervous walking around with Brian while he was wearing this shirt :)

Can't you see the excitement in his face?

Bummer!  Oh well they came from behind and almost won :)

This town revolves around college sports.  This was the pool area in our hotel with the Big Ten Conference flags!

Had to take a picture :)

I was nervous to call my mom the next morning to see how the kids were but when I got the response of "Perfect" I thought she was kidding!  But they really were awesome.  My dear sister moved into our house and both kids slept in her room.  Mikayla actually asked to go to bed at night (she NEVER does that for us :)) and Caden woke up at 6:30 and Mikayla didn't wake up until 8:30!  So happy!  We then enjoyed our complimentary breakfast and headed for Route 80 East.  I was thrilled to start and finish an entire book in the 24 hours we were away.  Oh course we were both so happy to come home and have Mikayla yell our names and come running to give us hugs and Caden's excited little smile to see us.  Oh and Brian decided that it was so fun that he's putting this on his Christmas list from now on :)

  1. So fun!! And a tad bit jealous . . . the only time Matt and I have ever been away without our kids has been with high schoolers . . . I don't think that really counts!!! =) Glad you got some time away to do that basketball stuff (I'm thinking you need to put Caribbean on your Christmas list . . . enough of this PA stuff!) ;)
