Grandma B came to visit!
(November 1-7)
When I got an e-mail from Brian's mom telling us that she was coming to visit we were thrilled! The last time we saw Brian's family was for Rodney's funeral in July. It was an incredibly emotional and difficult visit. When we left we knew we probably wouldn't make it back to Iowa until next summer. After 2 years in a row of making 3-4 trips, (most of which we drove) we knew we all needed a break from car rides of that length. So again we were thrilled when Grandma B decided to fly out. We went to the airport and Mikayla ran right up to Grandma and gave her a hug. This made me so happy because I was fearful that Mikayla would never be completely comfortable with our family that live far from us. But it turns out both kids LOVED having Grandma's undivided attention!
Aquarium
We took her to Maritime Aquarium in Connecticut (by the way, traffic in Connecticut is terrible!) Mikayla really enjoyed seeing all the animals.

Mikayla's Birthday Party
When we found out when Grandma was coming we decided to wait to have her birthday party until she got here. It makes me a little sad that we never have both families around for special events so I was thankful that we could have her here for Mikayla's party.

We had fun having a mini photo shoot with the kids in the pile of leaves that Grandma and Mikayla raked. This is my favorite picture!
We really had a great week with Brian's mom and I was so sad when she left. It was glorious having an extra pair of hands :) I am so thankful to her for taking the time and spending the money to come visit us. It meant so much to us!
